Lectures on Calvinism - Part 2
Kuyper's primary thesis is that there are two life systems, or worldviews competing against one another. He writes: "Modernism is bound to build a world of it's own from the data of the natural man, and to construct man himself from the data of nature; while, on the other hand, all those who reverently bow the knee to Christ and worship Him as the Son of the living God, and God himself are bent upon saving the 'Christian Heritage'. This is the struggle in Europe, this is the struggle in America..." How true these words remain today. There are not a multiplicity of worldviews competing, ultimately there are only two, biblical Christianity and all others.
We as twenty-first century Americans must appreciate what Kuyper practiced when he said: "If the battle is to be fought with honor and with a hope of victory, then principle must be arrayed against principle." We must engage in the debate honestly - not trifling with peripheral arguments and merely anecdotal evidence. We must get to the heart of the issue at every point. Kuyper understood that God's word first of all declares a cosmology before declaring a soteriology. As we engage in our struggle to see the kingdom advanced, we must understand that unless we can clearly articulate a biblical and cohesive cosmology we will never be able to articulate a sensible soteriology.

Please take our Indiana legislators before the throne of grace in these last hours of this legislative session. Many are believers and need the wisdom of God. All are servants of God for our good.
1 Comments:
cosmology before soteriology. very helpful paradigm for thinking - esp. with all the soteriological debates about.
