Searching Things Out

It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.

Timing is everything

Isn't it interesting that there are more comments on this blog when I do not post than when I do? Apparently, people find it more interesting when I do not say anything than when I do. Scary, especially given my calling.

Also, someone placed a stopwatch in my mailbox at church in the last couple of days. I suppose there are three possibilities for what this sign might mean:

1. Someone thinks my sermons have been going to long and is attempting to help me grow by giving me this gift.
2. Someone has been convicted about timing my sermons and is attempting to confess their guilt.
3. Someone has misplaced their stopwatch and in so doing has stirred up needless speculation.

If you know which of these is true or know who the responsible party is, please inform me.

4. Someone thinks you should help Elizabeth around the house and time your self to see if your priorities are straight.

5. Someone wants you to do the mini next year and wants you to get an early start.

6. Someone wants you to give the high sign when the other pastors go overtime.

ok...this is too much fun...I better stop.

7. Someone was hinting that it was time to post again.

(Maybe if I hold off a little longer I'll get a free stopwatch too!)

8. They misplaced it.
9. They decided that they had an extra stop watca and decided that you were the most perfect person to have it.
10. They thought that you needed one.

I remember when you used to time Dave's sermons. Maybe the stopwatch is coming back to haunt you. :-)

The strange thing about those reaping what they sow is they often do not see things for what they really are. As Mrs. B. points out, obviously the young man who used to chart sermon lengths is being sent a message. :)

Actually I wanted to just "Amen" your post on Van above, but this one was too big a target to pass up.

Glad to see you posting again.

As I understand it, over in the 'Old World' it used to be that a congregation placed a large sand-timer near the pulpit for timing sermons. But the original reason was to insure that the preacher 'gave them their money's worth' and preached a full, proper length sermon. The timer was not to keep it short, but to press the preacher on! (At least, that's the story I've heard: I've never checked it out.)

Anyhow, as one preacher to another, I would advise you to accept this as indication you are preaching too short and someone is wanting more out of you! =)
